Spanish phone company Telefonica SA (TEF, TEF.MC) will be able to ramp up growth in Brazil with full control of Brazilian mobile telephone operator Vivo SA (VIV, VIVO4.BR), a company executive said Tuesday.

The purchase of Vivo "allows Telefonica to accelerate in Brazil," Antonio Valente, chief executive of Telefonica Brazil, said at a conference here.

Telefonica recently agreed to buy out its partner in Vivo, Portugal Telecom SA (PT, PTC.LB) in a multi-billion dollar deal.
