MILAN (MF-Dow Jones)--Chairman Gabriele Galateri di Genola of Telecom Italia SpA (TI) said Friday its Brazilian wireless company, TIM Participacoes SA (TSU), will always be an important asset for Italy's former telephone monopoly.

Telefonica SA's (TEF) offer to Portugal Telecom SGPS.SA (PT) to take control of their Brazilian joint-venture should show the market that TIM Participacoes is worth more, said Telecom Italia's chairman, who was speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Milan.
