Talbots Promotes Richard T. O'Connell, Jr. to Executive Vice President, Legal and Real Estate

The Talbots, Inc. (NYSE: TLB) today announced that it has promoted
Richard T. O�Connell, Jr. to the position of Executive Vice
President, Legal and Real Estate, assuming the increasingly
important role of liaison for Talbots, Inc. with the Company�s
Board of Directors. He will continue as the Company�s chief legal
officer, Secretary to the Board of Directors and will maintain all
his existing real estate responsibilities for Talbots, Inc. Mr.
O�Connell joined Talbots in 1988 as Vice President, Legal and Real
Estate, and was appointed Senior Vice President, Legal and Real
Estate in 1989, responsible for the Company�s legal affairs as well
as its real estate holdings and execution of its store expansion
plans. He was previously Vice President, Group Counsel, of the
Specialty Retail Group, General Mills, Inc. and Assistant General
Counsel at Melville Corporation. Mr. O�Connell is a past trustee
for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Arnold B.
