Students Across Canada Invited to Apply for Shaw Kindness Sticks Youth Grants
February 28 2018 - 12:00PM
Shaw Communications Inc. is inviting youth across Canada to get
creative and think of the ways they can help promote kindness and
respect in their schools with the launch of the Shaw Kindness
Sticks grant program.
From today until April 30, students can apply
online for a chance to receive a grant of up to $5,000 to put
towards an initiative that inspires positivity and inclusivity at
their schools. To be eligible for grants, students must be
returning to their current schools in September 2018.
“The best advocates of positivity and respect in
schools are the students themselves,” said Chethan Lakshman, Vice
President, External Affairs, Shaw Communications. “We’ve seen
extraordinary examples of compassion from young leaders through the
Shaw Respect Camps and Pink Shirt Promise, and we know more can be
done. The Shaw Kindness Sticks grant aims to turn student-driven
ideas that promote positivity into action.”
The Shaw Kindness Sticks grant program will
provide a platform for youth to think creatively about the
activities and initiatives that can have the potential to make a
big difference in the lives of others.
Students who wish to apply are encouraged to
work with their school and submit their ideas online at
shaw.ca/KindnessSticks. Once recipients are selected, the grants
will be awarded to each school to implement the submitted idea in
partnership with the student.
All entries should suggest an activity or
initiative that can empower students to come together and support
one another through inclusivity and friendship. Whether it’s a
buddy bench that encourages classmates to sit together and get to
know each other, a community garden that is dedicated to friendship
and respect, or a kindness carnival that brings games and
activities that encourage teamwork and cooperation—students are
invited to be creative and think outside the box in their
ideas.
Once the submission period has closed, a panel
of expert judges will review the applications and award 10 grants
to the selected students and their schools. All Shaw Kindness
Sticks grant recipients will be announced in September 2018, and
finalist stories will be featured at shaw.ca/KindnessSticks.
