Protective Life Corporation (NYSE:PL) announced today that Charles D. McCrary and C. Dowd Ritter have joined the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. McCrary is President and Chief Executive Officer of Alabama Power Company, which provides electricity to 1.3 million customers in Alabama. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University and a Juris Doctor degree from Birmingham School of Law. He serves on a number of corporate and non-profit boards, including Alabama Power Company, AmSouth Bancorporation, and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. Additionally, Mr. McCrary holds various leadership positions in a number of civic, educational and industry related organizations. Mr. Ritter is Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of AmSouth Bancorporation. AmSouth is a $50 billion bank-holding company headquartered in Birmingham, AL operating over 680 offices in six southeastern states. Mr. Ritter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Birmingham-Southern College and is a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. In addition to numerous civic and community organizations, Mr. Ritter currently serves on the boards of directors of a number of corporate and non-profit organizations including AmSouth Bancorporation, AmSouth Bank, Alabama Power Company, and McWane, Inc.
