KBR (NYSE: KBR) today announced it was awarded a contract by Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) – a Jaypee Group company – to provide license and engineering design services for JAL’s brownfield 2,200 metric tons per day ammonia plant in Kanpur, India.

KBR is licensing its Purifier™ technology, proven to provide the lowest energy consumption as compared to other technology offerings in the market. KBR’s design will enable JAL to build the ammonia unit with lower energy consumption and reduced capital costs. The new unit will be set-up in an existing plant at the Kanpur site, which was recently acquired by JAL. The award follows KBR’s execution of a revamp study for JAL’s existing three identical 450 metric tons per day ammonia trains completed in late 2010.

“KBR is pleased to support the Jaypee Group’s expansion into the fertilizer market,” said John Derbyshire, President, Technology. “I am confident that KBR’s Purifier technology will set the foundation for an extremely reliable, robust, low-energy facility to help our client to successfully enter the industry.”

KBR is a global engineering, construction and services company supporting the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power, industrial, and commercial markets. For more information, visit www.kbr.com.
