Harris Corporation Receives Prestigious Industry Award From the Air
Traffic Control Association WASHINGTON, Oct. 29
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It was announced today that Harris
Corporation is the recipient of the Air Traffic Control
Association's (ATCA) 2003 Industrial Award. The annual award
recognizes companies who have significantly enhanced the safety,
quality and efficiency of the nation's air traffic control system.
The announcement was made in conjunction with ATCA's 48th Annual
International Technical Program and Exhibits (Harris Booth #402),
being held October 26-30, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in
Washington, D.C. "The ATCA Industrial Award is one of the most
prestigious awards," said Gabriel A. Hartl, president of ATCA. "We
are pleased to present this year's award to Harris Corporation for
outstanding achievements in enhancing the safety and efficiency of
the National Airspace System (NAS)." The award recognizes Harris'
long history of developing and integrating system solutions for the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the global air traffic
control network. Harris is one of two contractors selected for the
Rapid Preliminary Development Effort of the FAA's Next Generation
Air/Ground Communications (NEXCOM) program, which is a cornerstone
of NAS modernization. In addition, Harris is the prime contractor
for the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) program, which
will provide improved services to more than 5,000 FAA facilities
nationwide. Other FAA programs developed by Harris are the Weather
And Radar Processor (WARP), a weather system serving the en-route
air traffic control environment; the Operational And Supportability
Implementation System (OASIS), an integrated weather/flight
planning tool that enables Automated Flight Service Stations to
better serve the general aviation pilot community; the Voice
Switching and Control System (VSCS), which provides the critical
air-to-ground communications links between en-route aircraft and
air traffic controllers throughout the Continental United States;
and the Alaskan NAS Interfacility Communications System (ANICS), a
satellite-based network that provides critical NAS interfacility
communications (voice and data) for the FAA's Alaskan Region. "We
are very honored to have been chosen by ATCA for this award, and
proud of our ongoing partnership with the FAA and the ATC
community," said Bob Henry, corporate senior vice president, and
president Harris Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD).
"We are committed to delivering the technology and services that
will continue to benefit the global air traffic control community
and the flying public." Harris GCSD, one of five divisions within
Harris Corporation, conducts advanced research studies, develops
prototypes and produces and supports state-of-the-art, assured
communications and information systems that solve the
mission-critical communications challenges of its military and
government customers, while serving as the technology base for the
company's diverse commercial businesses. Harris Corporation, which
also provides tactical radio, microwave, broadcast and network
products and systems, serves customers in more than 150 countries.
