Harris Corporation Creates Virtual 3-D Flyover Map of the National Memorial Day Parade Route

PR Newswire (US)
WASHINGTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The American Veterans
Center is using a three-dimensional map from Harris Corporation
(NYSE:HRS) to show in remarkable detail the route for the upcoming
National Memorial Day Parade. The map -- which shows buildings,
trees and landmarks as a video with photo-realistic 3-D views -- is
viewable by the public at the parade web site
(http://www.nationalmemorialdayparade.com/). Harris, which provides
geospatial visualization technology and models to government and
military customers, is using technology from its RealSite(R)
product family to create the map. The 3D model developed for the
parade route allows anyone with a computer and Internet connection
to 'virtually' travel the path of the parade along Constitution
Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets, all in clear, 3-D images. The
parade will take place on May 25, 2009. "Up until now, the public's
view of the parade route online was limited to one-dimensional,
static maps," said Tim Holbert, program director, American Veterans
Center. "Now they can see the entire route ahead of time, as if
they were just above the street, in stunning detail, right on their
computer. We expect many people to use the new map to stake out
good viewing spots on the day of the parade." Photos of the 3-D map

models are built from ground, aerial and satellite imagery using
technology developed for government customers and are geospatially
accurate. Harris has developed nearly 500 global 3-D models during
the past five years as a prime contractor for the U.S. government.
These applications are used in a number of important areas: --
Mission Planning - Site Familiarization and Planning Difficult to
access regions can be modeled and analyzed quickly and affordably,
with minimal risk to personnel and resources. -- Security -
Facility and Event Security Planning and Monitoring Accurate,
photo-realistic data provides the knowledge necessary for planning
the location of security cameras, sensors, motorcade routes, and
other vital security information. -- Disaster Mitigation - Disaster
Mitigation Planning and Response Modeling and simulation can be
used to forecast, simulate and prepare for events in advance.
Complex situations can be evaluated using real-time data
integration to promote a quick and comprehensive understanding of
what is happening as events take place. -- Telecommunications -
Communications Network Planning and Monitoring Placement of
satellite communication equipment can be preplanned, effectively
lowering installation costs and reducing miscalculations. About The
