JTRS-Approved Falcon III Radios Support Transition to Networked Battlefield WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (AUSA Booth #1439) - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, demonstrated a four-channel multiband vehicular radio system at the Association of the U.S. Army Annual Meeting and Exposition, October 6-8, 2008. A four-channel ground mobile system is one of the future applications of the U.S. Department of Defense Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program. The Harris demonstration consists of four integrated JTRS-approved Falcon III AN/PRC-117G manpack networking radios in a vehicular adapter. Each of the four AN/PRC-117G channels simultaneously operates a different waveform, including the new JTRS Soldier Radio Waveform, to support the transition to a networked battlefield communications environment. As part of the demonstration, voice and data wideband interoperability was demonstrated between the vehicular system and the Harris RF-300S Secure Personal Radio. Additionally, the system utilized the newly announced Harris RF-7800B series of tactical Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) terminals for beyond-line-of-sight high-speed data communications. "We're pleased to be giving our customers a preview of our approach to a JTRS-approved multichannel radio system," said Steve Marschilok, vice president and general manager, U.S. Department of Defense Business, Harris RF Communications. "The Falcon III wideband multi-channel system is a modular, cost-effective capability available today and can be configured in two, three and four channel variants. The multichannel system provides legacy interoperability with deployed systems as well as JTRS wideband waveforms for the networked battlefield." The JTRS-approved Falcon III(R) AN/PRC-117G(V)1(C) multiband multimission manpack allows the mobile warfighter access to secure IP data at on-air rates up to 5 megabits-per-second. The radio features mobile ad hoc networking, automated network establishment and maintenance, and integrated Type 1 security. The AN/PRC-117G and its SCA-compliant software-defined architecture incorporate waveforms that offer legacy interoperability with the full range of currently fielded radios, utilizing certified DAMA tactical satellite (TACSAT), SINCGARS and Havequick II. The radio also provides advanced tactical networking capabilities through the Harris Advanced Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2), Harris High Performance Waveform (HPW) and the current version of the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) The Falcon III manpack will provide future capabilities through software upgrades that incorporate new and advanced waveforms, such as MUOS (Mobile User Objective System). To date, the AN/PRC-117G has received four major technical certifications, including Type-1 information security from the National Security Agency, full SCA compliance certification from the Joint Test and Evaluation Lab (JTEL) of the Joint Program Executive Office (JPEO) of the Joint Tactical Radio System, and both Narrowband Interoperability Assessment and DAMA Tactical Satellite certifications from the Joint Interoperability Test Center (JITC). The radio and its capabilities have been demonstrated to more than 100 customers, including the JPEO of the JTRS program at JTRS offices in San Diego.
