Radio Provides Beyond-Line-of-Sight Communications Via UHF Satellite WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (AUSA Booth # 1439) -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announced today that its Falcon III AN/PRC-117G (V)1(C) manpack networking radio has been certified for sending and receiving voice and data over U.S. tactical military satellites. The AN/PRC-117G is the first JTRS Software Communications Architecture (SCA)-certified wideband tactical networking radio to be deployed by the U.S. Department of Defense. The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G was certified as compliant with Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) military standards by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) in Fort Huachuca, Ariz. DAMA technology is used by the military for UHF satellite communications to make more efficient use of limited radio frequency spectrum. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have mandated DAMA-compliant terminals for all military UHF SATCOM users. "DAMA certification is a major technical milestone for the Falcon III AN/PRC-117G manpack," said Steve Marschilok, vice president and general manager, Department of Defense Business, Harris RF Communications. "This radio provides customers with beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communications capabilities via the Department of Defense UHF Follow-on satellite constellation. As a result, warfighters can interoperate with SATCOM radios deployed in all DoD services and will be able to utilize data-intensive applications connected over long distances or when operating in mountainous or obstructed territories. This radio provides us a leadership position to meet the increasing demands for networked, interoperable communications, years ahead of the competition." The DAMA certification is the fourth major technical milestone for the AN/PRC-117G manpack. It previously received certifications for Type-1 information security from the National Security Agency, full SCA compliance certification from the Joint Test and Evaluation Lab (JTEL) of the Joint Program Executive Office (JPEO) of the Joint Tactical Radio System, and the Narrowband Interoperability Assessment from JITC. The Falcon III manpack is a wideband tactical networking radio that transmits IP data to the tactical Internet at on-air rates of up to 5 Mbps, more than a 10-fold increase for tactical links. It also offers an extended frequency range of 30 MHz to 2 GHz. The radio is designed specifically to fit into the tactical networks of the future and support a wide variety of data-intensive applications, such as biometrics, situational awareness, and reconnaissance feeds, while offering a high degree of mobility, security, and survivability. It is the first combined wideband/narrowband tactical radio to be deployed by the Department of Defense.
