MELBOURNE, Fla. and WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has announced three new key senior executive assignments in its government businesses. The changes are effective immediately. The company named Sheldon L. Fox president of its National Intelligence Programs business. Fox, who had been president of the company's Defense Programs business, succeeds Russell E. Haney, who plans to retire at the end of 2007. Wesley B. (Wes) Covell, formerly vice president of Engineering, has been named president of Defense Programs, succeeding Fox. The company also named R. Kent Buchanan vice president of Engineering for Government Communications Systems and Chief Technology Officer for Harris. He had been vice president, Corporate Technology and Development. "These new assignments demonstrate the great depth of management talent within Harris, which has allowed us to address an expanding base of customers in the intelligence, defense, and civil areas of our government businesses," said Howard L. Fox joined Harris in 1984 and has held senior leadership positions in both program management and business development for the company's government businesses. He served most recently as president of the Defense Programs business. As president of National Intelligence Programs, Fox leads an organization providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance solutions for the nation's Intelligence Community. Covell joined Harris in 1990 as a lead engineer. Subsequently, he has held positions of increasing responsibility including vice president of Technology and Government Growth Programs for Harris Corporation, and vice president of Engineering for Government Communications Systems. As president of Defense Programs, Covell leads an organization providing communications systems, networks, and products for military aerospace, terrestrial and maritime applications. Buchanan joined Harris in 2005 as vice president, Corporate Technology and Development. Previously, he was the senior director of Growth Platforms at Motorola. During 15 years with Motorola, he held a number of leadership positions including vice president and general manager-Global eBusiness, vice president and general manager-Radio Products Division, vice president and general manager-Accessories and Aftermarket Products Division, as well as assignments in international network services and strategic marketing. He also served with General Electric Medical Systems Group, General Instrument Corporation, and as a management consultant with Bain & Company. As vice president of Engineering for Government Communications Systems and Chief Technology Officer for Harris, Buchanan leads the efforts of more than 3,600 Harris engineers.
