At least two senior U.K.-based sell-side mining equity analysts have defected to the buy side within the past week, sources familiar with the matter said.

Olivia Ker joined Blackrock Inc.'s (BLK) Natural Resources Equity team three days ago to cover the gold and mining sectors, two people familiar with the matter said.

Prior to joining Blackrock, Ker was head of the European Mining team at UBS AG (UBS) with lead coverage of the U.K. diversified mining companies.

Before moving to London in 2009, Ker worked for Merrill Lynch (BAC) in Sydney covering the Australian mining companies. She also spent four years working within the Mergers and Acquisition team at BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP).

Separately, a person familiar with the matter said Paul Galloway, the head of mining equities research at Sanford C. Bernstein left Bernstein Research Friday to join hedge fund Paulson & Co. The person said Bernstein had suspended mining coverage until a new head has been chosen.

Neither Ker nor Galloway could be reached for comment.
