DALLAS, Dec. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo
Corp. (NYSE: BLC), one of the nation's largest pure-play,
publicly-traded television companies, announced today that KING-TV,
its NBC affiliate in Seattle/Tacoma, has been selected to receive an Alfred
I. duPont-Columbia University Silver
Baton Award.
The Silver Baton will be awarded to KING for its investigative
series, Waste on the Water, which uncovered millions of
wasted and misused tax dollars in the Washington state ferry system. The
reports were the product of a four-month investigation by the KING
investigative team, including reporter Susannah Frame, producer Kellie Cheadle, photographers Steve Douglas and Doug
Burgess and news director Mark
Ginther.

This marks the fifth time KING has been honored with an Alfred
I. duPont-Columbia Silver Baton. Since 2000, Belo television
stations have received 13 duPont Awards, which is more than any
other commercial station group.
The Alfred I. duPont-Columbia
University Awards honor overall excellence in broadcast
journalism and have been administered by the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University since
1968. Established by Jessie
Ball duPont in 1942 in memory of her late husband, Alfred I.
duPont, the awards are the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer
Prizes, which are also administered by the Graduate School of
Journalism. KING will receive its Silver Baton at a ceremony hosted
by Columbia School of Journalism in
New York on January 20, 2011.
