UMB Bank Arizona, n.a., a chartered bank of UMB Financial
Corporation (NASDAQ: UMBF), today opened its first-ever banking
facility in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Conveniently located in
central Phoenix, this UMB Bank is within the Anchor Centre complex
at 2231 East Camelback Road, Suite 211. UMB opened a loan
production office in Phoenix in April 2004. After acquiring
operating-business clients and achieving growth objectives, UMB
successfully received charter status and has transitioned that
office into a full-service banking center. UMB has a dedicated
staff to provide direct sales and service primarily focused on
commercial loans, checking and deposit products, treasury
management and wealth management including personal trust and
fiduciary services. A distinguishing feature of the bank is the
deployment of the latest, back-office imaging technology to handle
digital check delivery. The movement for banks to digital check
imaging is the result of Check 21 legislation initiated in October
2004. "This is the initial step for UMB to operate a banking center
with the full capability to handle remote image capture of customer
deposits," said Doug Briggs, UMB Bank Arizona chairman and chief
executive officer. "Basically, that means deposited checks will be
processed as images through the Federal Reserve and onto the
originating bank. This is a notable convenience for customers as it
streamlines deposits for their business." Senior officers for the
banking center reporting to Briggs are President and Chief Lending
Officer Mark Peterson, and coordinating operations is Financial
Center Manager Julie Wellins. UMB Financial Corporation is a
multi-bank holding company headquartered in Kansas City, Mo.,
offering complete banking and related financial services to both
individual and business customers. Its banking subsidiaries own and
operate 140 banking centers throughout Missouri, Illinois,
Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arizona. Subsidiaries of
the holding company and the lead bank, UMB Bank, n.a., include an
investment services group based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a trust
management company in South Dakota, and single-purpose companies
that deal with brokerage services, consulting services and
insurance.
