California Micro Devices Expands Family of Voltage Regulators for Consumer and PC Applications CM3004 Ultra Low 1.7V Input Voltage 1 Amp LDO, Complemented by Pin Compatible 2 Amp CM3065 LDO MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- California Micro Devices (NASDAQ:CAMD) today announced the CM3004 and CM3065 families of 1.0 Amp and 2.0 Amp low dropout (LDO) linear regulators. These devices provide ideal low cost power solutions for digital consumer and computing applications such as set top boxes, digital TVs, NIC cards and printers. The CM3004 delivers up to 1.0A from an input voltage as low as 1.7V. It offers both fixed and adjustable outputs, allowing system designers to provide power as low as 1.2V from a low voltage power supply. Unlike competing low input voltage solutions, the CM3004 operates from a single supply rail, and does not require a higher voltage VBias supply, reducing power consumption and simplifying layout. The CM3065 is pin compatible with the CM3004 and offers up to 2.0A from an input supply as low as 2.2V. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040921/SFTU044 ) CM3004 - Unique Combination of Low Voltage, High Current, and Small Package The CM3004 is optimized to provide a low cost solution for designers who need to provide power to low voltage System-on-Chips from a low voltage supply rail, minimizing heat and power dissipation. It operates from 1.7 V to 5.5 V input supply, with a low dropout of 250 mV typical, 450mV max, at 1.0A load current. The CM3004 offers both fixed and adjustable outputs. When the adjust pin is tied to the Vout pin, it provides a fixed 1.2V output, and when it is grounded, the device offers a fixed 2.5V output. The CM3004 is offered in a thermally enhanced 8 lead SOIC package. CM3065 Delivers Up To 2.0 Amps of Current The general purpose CM3065 provides up to 2.0 Amps of current with 360mV dropout, and operates from a 2.2V to 5.5V input supply. Like the CM3004, it offers adjustable and fixed output voltages. It is available in 1.8V or 2.5V output versions, both of which also provide a fixed 1.2V output when the adjust pin is connected to Vout. It is available in two package options, a thermally enhanced 8 lead SOIC package and a 3 lead TO-263. Other Key Features Both the CM3004 and CM3065 offer excellent line and load regulation and low quiescent current. Both regulators are stable with low ESR output capacitors. Other key features include current limit protection, thermal overload protection, and reverse current protection in shutdown. Both families are available in lead free packaging options. Pricing and Availability The CM3004 and CM3065 are currently sampling. The CM3004 is priced at $0.67 each at 10,000 units. The CM3065 is priced at $0.69 each for the SOIC package and $0.86 for the TO263 package at 10,000 units. Volume production for both devices is scheduled for Q4 2004.
