J:COM Taps ARRIS FlexPath(TM) Wideband Technology to Deliver 160 Mbps Internet service
April 09 2007 - 11:30AM
PR Newswire (US)
SUWANEE, Ga., April 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS)
today announced that J:COM, the largest multiple system operator
(MSO) in Japan based on the number of customers served, is
deploying the ARRIS FlexPath(TM) pre-DOCSIS(R) 3.0 wideband channel
bonding solution to its residential customers. The wideband service
delivers super high-speed Internet service capable of downstream
speeds of 160 Mbps, and upstream speeds of 10 Mbps. The service
carries the brand "J:COM NET HIGHGRADE", and will be offered to
customers living in single dwelling units, individual homes and
smaller apartment buildings within the J:COM network footprint
beginning this month. Initial J:COM NET HIGHGRADE service
deployments are in the Kansai area at the Minami Osaka, Izumi, and
Izumi Ohtsu systems. The wideband solution is driven by the ARRIS
C4(R) CMTS situated in J:COM's headend and ARRIS Touchstone(R)
Wideband Modems WBM650C in the customer premises. The decision to
launch the new DOCSIS-based wideband service follows trials J:COM
conducted with ARRIS equipment during the second half of 2006. "We
are very pleased with the performance of the ARRIS FlexPath
wideband solution," commented Mr. Shunzo Yamaguchi, Director and
General Manager, Engineering Division, J:COM. "After extensive
testing in our labs and in close cooperation with ARRIS, we feel
that we can confidently offer secure and reliable super high-speed
Internet service to our customers." "We are honored to have been
selected by such a progressive MSO as J:COM to provide their 160
Mbps wideband data service," said ARRIS Senior Vice President of
Asia-Pacific Sales, George Fletcher. "We have a long tradition of
providing J:COM with circuit-switched and VoIP services and this
deployment further extends our product portfolio at this industry
leader." About FlexPath The ARRIS FlexPath solution is a DOCSIS
3.0-based channel bonding initiative that delivers far more
bandwidth per subscriber than previously available. FlexPath
software can be installed into existing C4 CMTS with a simple
software upgrade and all legacy DOCSIS modems -- 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0
-- can coexist on the same downstream channels as the FlexPath
modems. With the Touchstone Wideband Modem WBM650, FlexPath
delivers end-user data speeds of up to 160 Mbps in the downstream
and up to 120 Mbps in the upstream. It does this by bonding up to
four 256-QAM DOCSIS channels using packet-based bonding. The C4
CMTS are fully upgradeable to DOCSIS 3.0 and the Touchstone
Wideband Modems WBM650 are forward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0,
ensuring that operators who deploy C4 CMTS and FlexPath wideband
today will not encounter stranded investment as they migrate to
full DOCSIS 3.0. About ARRIS ARRIS provides broadband local access
