Procera® Networks Inc. (NYSE Amex: PKT), a developer of Evolved DPI solutions providing awareness, analysis, and control for network service providers, today announced the industry's first purpose-built, two rack unit (2RU) 10 Gbps deep packet inspection (DPI) appliance -- the PacketLogic PL8720. With up to 10 Gbps of throughput in a cost and space efficient two rack unit form factor, PacketLogic PL8720 is specifically designed for customers with accelerating network growth plans who are transitioning or will transition from GE (gigabit Ethernet) to 10GE links. The PL8720 has the greatest DPI port density per rack unit on the market, with up to eight 10GE or sixteen GE ports in a single appliance.

With its introduction, service providers now have a DPI platform in a power saving appliance that will easily upgrade from GE to 10GE. Instead of a chassis-based system with a higher initial cost of deployment, the PL8720 allows service providers to have lower capital expenditures and operating expenses. Customers also do not need to sacrifice scalability with the PL8720, as multiple systems can be clustered to support growth up to 80 Gbps of throughput in a single deployment. With a starting cost of less than half of many chassis-based 10GE solutions, the PL8720 dramatically changes the business model for 10GE DPI deployments.
