ALLENTOWN, Pa., July 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- PPL announced
today it has been recognized as a 2018 Best Place to Work for
Disability Inclusion on the Disability Equality Index® (DEI®), a
national benchmarking tool that rates companies on their disability
inclusion policies and practices.
PPL earned a high score of 90 percent on the DEI, which reflects
the company's commitment to promoting inclusion, success and
understanding of people with disabilities in the workplace.
"We want all employees to realize their full potential and no
barrier — visible or invisible — should get in the way of that,"
said Bill Spence, chairman,
president and chief executive officer. "We are committed to giving
all employees a level playing field by providing the means to help
employees overcome challenging situations."
The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of
People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the US Business Leadership
Network (USBLN). The index measures key performance indicators
across organizational culture, leadership, accessibility,
employment, community engagement, support services and supplier
diversity.
PPL's results are a testament to not only the tangible policies
and practices in place to support those with disabilities, but also
the supportive culture that celebrates differences and promotes
understanding.
"We have a team of people who support those with disabilities
and create individual accommodation plans to make the work
environment flexible to their unique needs," said Kristine Maciolek Small, director – Diversity
and Inclusion and Talent Management and founder and president of
REACH, the company's employee-led business resource group dedicated
to supporting individuals with disabilities in PPL's workplace. "As
a person living with MS, these types of efforts have provided an
environment where I feel supported, which has allowed me to be open
about my disability."
PPL's efforts extend to the communities it serves as well as its
business partners. For more about PPL's commitment to inclusion and
