ADRs End Higher, Helped by Airlines in China

Dow Jones News
International stocks trading in New York closed higher on
Wednesday.
The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts was little
changed at 151.68. The Asian index increased 0.4%, to 179.77. The
Latin American index rose 0.6%, to 242.73. The emerging-markets
index increased 0.5%, to 321.70. The European index fell 0.3%, to
140.69.
ADRs of some Chinese airlines rose amid hopes of strong traffic
growth through the year-end. That comes as chatter persists about
major state-owned firms bringing in new outside investors in amid
another round of so-called mixed-ownership reforms. ADRs of China
Southern Airlines Co. (ZNH) rose 5.7%, to $51.79, as China Eastern
Airlines Corp. (CEA) rose 5.3%, to $34.68.
ADRs of Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDS.A) rose 0.3%, to $65.10, as
energy prices rose and as an Italian judge ruled Wednesday that
industry executives must stand trial on corruption charges
connected to a 2011 Nigerian oil deal.
