Acacia Communications to Demonstrate Coherent Ecosystem
March 21 2017 - 12:41PM
Acacia Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACIA), a leading provider of
high-speed coherent optical interconnect products, today announced
that it will be demonstrating its ecosystem of coherent solutions,
which support multiple commercial models, with flexible features
that enhance end user network investment. Acacia
Communications’ CFP2-DCO module, introduced in November 2016,
offers four times the faceplate capacity of Acacia Communications’
CFP-DCO module, and supports interoperability with a wide range of
network equipment based on Acacia Communications or third-party
digital signal processor (DSP) implementations.
At the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition
(OFC) taking place March 21st to 23rd, 2017 at the Los Angeles
Convention Center, Acacia Communications will demonstrate a subset
of its coherent product portfolio by interconnecting each of the
following configurations running at 200 Gbps using a 16QAM
modulation format:
- CFP2-DCO – A pluggable optics solution that offers high density
and a pay as you grow model that includes the DSP
- AC400 – A board mounted 2 x 200Gbps solution offering enhanced
dispersion compensation and high gain soft-decision forward error
correction (FEC)
- CFP2-ACO + Denali DSP – A pluggable optics approach that offers
the performance of AC400 with multi-sourced pluggable optics
“We believe that our range of coherent module products is the
broadest in the industry, supporting board mounted modules, DCO and
ACO pluggable form factors, DSP, and photonic integrated circuit
(PIC) commercial models,” said Raj Shanmugaraj, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Acacia Communications. “With high
density and a broad range of internetworking capabilities, our
CFP2-DCO module is an important piece of this ecosystem allowing
interconnection of a wide-range of implementations deployed in
switch, routing, and transport system equipment.”
In addition, Acacia’s CFP2-DCO can interoperate with third party
DSP implementations using hard decision staircase FEC. For
higher performance 200 Gbps applications, the module supports an 8
QAM modulation format that offers improved reach compared to 16
QAM. Enhanced features, such as internal Layer 1 encryption
eliminate the need for additional external components.
“Deutsche Telekom needs product features that improve the
efficiency of our network, such as low power, plugability, and
interoperability,” said Axel Clauberg, Vice President,
Aggregation, Transport, IP Architecture at Deutsche Telekom
AG. “We believe the industry needs more interoperability
between coherent interfaces and Acacia Communications’ portfolio
helps to make that happen.”
Acacia Communications is also working to standardize coherent
interconnects by supporting the effort of the Optical
Internetworking Forum to define an interface standard for low power
400 Gbps interfaces at transmission distances below 120 km.
Acacia Communications believes that improving the level of
interoperability in optical transport networks will help improve
the efficiency needed to support increasing demand for bandwidth in
these networks.
About Acacia Communications
Acacia Communications develops, manufactures and sells
high-speed coherent optical interconnect products that are designed
to transform communications networks through improvements in
performance, capacity and cost. By leveraging silicon technology to
build optical interconnects, a process Acacia refers to as the
“siliconization of optical interconnect,” Acacia is able to offer
products at higher speeds and density with low power consumption,
that meet the needs of cloud and service providers and can be
easily integrated in a cost effective manner with existing network
equipment. www.acacia-inc.com.
