Uber Technologies Inc. fired a top software engineer for failing
to disclose allegations of sexual harassment at his previous
employer, Alphabet Inc.'s Google, a person familiar with the matter
said on Monday.
Amit Singhal, senior vice president of engineering, had joined
Uber just over a month ago. Uber Chief Executive Travis Kalanick
asked him to step down after the company learned recently of the
allegations about his time at Google, this person said.
Mr. Singhal said in a statement, "Harassment is unacceptable in
any setting. I certainly want everyone to know that I do not
condone and have not committed such behavior. In my 20-year career,
I've never been accused of anything like this before and the
decision to leave Google was my own."
