Project VIC and Scott Van Nice, NTID Alumnus,
Recognized for Contributions to Security and Digital
Investigations
Guidance Software, makers of EnCase®, the gold standard in
forensic security, today announced the winners of the Solving for X
Awards at Enfuse™ 2016 in Las Vegas. The Solving for X Awards
ceremony recognized Project VIC, a collaborative industry effort to
combat child exploitation through information and data sharing, and
Scott Van Nice for spearheading a program to bring Guidance
Software’s Forensic Bootcamp to students of Rochester Institute of
Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID).
NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world
for the deaf or hard of hearing.
Enfuse is one of the largest international gatherings of
multi-national organizations and government agencies focused on
current trends and recent industry news in cyber security,
information risk and digital investigations. In a ceremony today at
the conference, Guidance Software honored Project VIC and offered a
donation to support its continued innovation.
“The efforts of Project VIC over the years have now standardized
and streamlined how investigators handle big data sets in their
fight against child exploitation. We applaud Guidance Software for
aligning their efforts with Project VIC,” said Project VIC
Coordinator Richard Brown. “As leaders in the forensic law
enforcement market, their support for Project VIC will help to
identify and rescue children from exploitation earlier in the
initial investigations. Congratulations to Guidance Software and
many thanks for recognizing the efforts of all who have built out
Project VIC to where it is today.”
Project VIC is a collaborative effort made up of member agencies
of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces, Federal
agencies, non-profit, and corporate partners. Its purpose is to
create an ecosystem of information and data sharing between
domestic and international law enforcement agencies that work on
crimes facilitated against children and the exploitation of
children.
The Solving for X Award was also presented to Scott Van Nice for
creating opportunities for NTID students to gain experience in
digital forensics. Mr. Van Nice is currently systems manager
forensics, information security, and cyber security at Procter
& Gamble (P&G).
Mr. Van Nice spearheaded a program to bring together corporate
sponsors, EnCase Forensic software trainers, and cybersecurity
recruiters to NTID for the one-week Computer Forensics Boot Camp
for the benefit of 23 NTID deaf and hard of hearing students.
“Participation and support from the technology industry plays an
invaluable role in helping to provide students with the experience
they need to enter the workforce,” said Mr. Van Nice. “Guidance has
been an active partner of P&G by sharing the technology and
support to build strong foundational skills in digital forensics. I
am honored to accept this award, which provides tremendous
validation for our efforts to educate employers about hiring people
with disabilities and preparing deaf and hard of hearing students
for technology-related careers.”
“This year’s Solving for X Award winners are leading the charge
to advance the power of digital forensics and drive positive
change,” said Michael Harris, chief marketing officer at Guidance
Software. “It is our privilege to recognize the contributions of
Project VIC and Scott Van Nice at this year’s Enfuse conference,
and we look forward to watching them continue to shape the industry
in the years ahead.”
