VISTA, Calif., April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Eco Building
Products, Inc., (PINK: ECOB) announced today that Interstate +
Lakeland Lumber in Connecticut,
and Guthrie Lumber & Distribution of Austin, Texas have submitted orders for an
inventory reset of Eco Red
Shield™ Lumber Coatings in support of their
local market's increase in jobs specified with the Company's
Advanced Framing Lumber. Both well respected partners are a
great addition to ECOB's other established Affiliate Coaters adding
millions of board feet of Eco Red
Shield lumber protection without compromising the indoor air
quality of homes during the wet spring building season.
This news has impeccable timing with last week's UL conference
for "Smarter Building" where Mold and VOC's were major topics. UL
Economist Grossi commented that "A Smart Building could monitor the
air for mold and chemical particles that can be concentrated within
buildings. The ability of smart buildings to monitor and mitigate
the substances in a building's air supply", Grossi said, "is
dependent on a growth in public awareness that pushes research into
the effects of these pollutants."
This public demand is likely to be sparked by recent advances in
hand-held and home air quality detectors that will empower
individuals to test their surroundings. UL's air quality scientists
think the ability to produce effective detectors is easily within
five years away. The key factor pushing our society into mass
adoption of smart building use is the technological competence of a
new generation — the Millennials. People born after 1976 are, in
general, more conditioned to be familiar with and rely on
information technology to monitor building use will be
second-nature to a generation that has never operated without
computers. These people will increasingly join the ranks of
building operations and maintenance staff who will likely welcome
the increased use of smart building construction.

HCC Specialty a division of HCC Insurance Holdings wrote in Part
1 saying: "Lawsuits over 'toxic' mold are becoming as prevalent as
mold itself. No one involved in constructing buildings with mold
problems is safe from litigation. Contractors are often considered
fair game, even when the fault lies wholly with the design-and even
when the contractor builds exactly to spec. Toxic Mold Part II
continues to hammer home the reality by summarizing that "If you
work on building construction projects, this is your problem, and
the stakes are high. Know the risks, and learn how to avoid
them."

Despite the very real debate as to the alleged health risks
associated with mold, mold is a real problem for everyone in the
construction industry. Whether or not the hysteria is justified,
the fear is real, and it has created a multi-billion dollar mold
industry. Not surprisingly, personal injury attorneys are at the
center of this trend. The construction, insurance, and real estate
markets are besieged by mold litigation and the never-ending quest
to locate and eradicate mold. Although the true extent of the
problem may be hazy, one thing is crystal clear: At this point, the
truth doesn't matter. Perception is reality, and the public
perception of mold is that it is highly toxic to humans.
Eco Building Products, Inc. President & Chief Executive
Officer commented that "The argument over whether mold can be a
health risk is similar to the argument over whether climate change
storms are real. The fact that there is enough evidence to suggest
that we need to embrace new defensive ways to build will only come
from the private sector because our insurance companies avoid mold
insurance kind of like all those houses hurt by Sandy that should
have been torn down. Eco Red Shield GREENGUARD Gold certification
may have had little value up until now where Eco Red Shield as proven to have lower chemical
emissions than raw lumber, and any other treated lumber
product. Just last week, the UL had their conference on
"Smarter Building "where Mold and VOC's were a major topic. This is
only the beginning when it comes to what this next home buyer
generation will tolerate. In our testing with GREENGUARD, they
recognize that Eco has significantly reduced the natural process of
formaldehyde off-gassing which naturally occurs in raw lumber, but
it's never measured once a home has been built because of drywall
installation; except that most all return air vents on our HVAC
systems are made with raw lumber as the duct. It's certain that
some positive form of change could come from this; change that
would never be spearheaded by any of our National Builders, Lumber
Producers or Lumber Retailers/Wholesalers, but not before more
builders get sued because they ignore this problem that is worse
now than ever before, and it all started with the over stocked
lumber reloads full of wet wood. This will certainly be a
topic of discussion as the ECOB Board gathers today. I'm looking
forward to having a conversation with UL economist Grossi."
