ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In a union
representation election conducted yesterday by the National Labor
Relations Board (NLRB), mechanics at Con-way Freight's facility in
Gary/Hammond, Ind. voted to reject representation
by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers Union.
Greg Lehmkuhl, president of
Con-way Freight, commended employees for their diligence and
perseverance in weighing the facts and making an informed decision
on union representation, ultimately voting against the union, its
rhetoric and misinformation.
"It is rewarding to see our employees reach the conclusion that
we can best work together directly and succeed as a team when we
are focused on satisfying our customers and operating the safest,
best maintained fleet in the industry," Lehmkuhl noted. "Our
experience has been that when our employees have the opportunity to
get the facts, understand clearly the value of what they have
today, and recognize the advantages and opportunities they have in
being union-free, they choose to reject union representation."
"We remain convinced that our path to success lies in
maintaining an open, respectful and direct relationship with our
employees without the interference of a third party," he
concluded.
Con-way Freight currently does not have a contract with any
union at any of its nearly 300 locations in the U.S.
