Corning Highlights Super-Slim LCD for Interactive Whiteboard Applications at Integrated Systems Europe
February 09 2015 - 8:30AM
Three Corning advanced glass solutions featured in
touch-enabled SDP prototype
CORNING, N.Y., February 9,
2015 - Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced
plans to team with Sakai Display Products Corporation (SDP) to
showcase SDP's liquid crystal display module for use as an
interactive whiteboard. The prototype includes three Corning glass
technologies, and Corning will display it Feb. 10-12, in booth
#8-E173 at Integrated Systems Europe in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The super-slim, 70-inch LCD uses Corning Iris(TM)
Glass as its light-guide plate, Corning® EAGLE
XG® Slim Glass as
its backplane and frontplane, and anti-glare Corning®
Gorilla® Glass as its
cover. SDP's unit supports 4K resolution, reads up to 10 touch
points, and features a sleek design that is thinner than 10
millimeters.
"Iris Glass has received positive market reception
since its introduction at the Consumer Electronics Show in early
January. We are pleased to work with SDP to explore the use of Iris
Glass in applications that extend beyond TVs - like interactive
whiteboards," said David Loeber, business director, Gorilla Glass,
Corning Specialty Materials. "We also continue to drive innovation
in large-format cover glass with anti-glare Gorilla Glass that
provides an edge-to-edge, easy gliding surface on our well-known,
thin, damage-resistant glass."
Iris Glass is a flat glass light-guide plate that
enables ultra-slim, edge-lit LCDs. As part of the backlight
assembly, light-guide plates distribute and direct LED light
through LCD displays. With its excellent transmission and minimal
color shift, Iris Glass provides bright, vivid, and immersive
pictures.
EAGLE XG Slim Glass is suited for mainstream LCD
applications and is naturally thin, delivering significant
cost-reduction benefits to TV panel manufacturers. Gorilla Glass
with anti-glare technology provides outstanding touch and improved
viewer experience critical in large-format, high-performance
displays.
Together, these glasses allow panel makers to slim
bezels and reduce device thicknesses, resulting in innovative
large-format device designs.
