VISTA, Calif., Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Eco Building
Products, Inc., (PINK: ECOB) announced today that Flying Point
Development Inc. has ordered their first Eco Red Shield Protected
Lumber "whole-house" package for a new custom home in excess of
nine thousand square feet to be built in the historic town of
Water Mill, New York
http://watermillmuseum.org/. This Flying Point Development project
will be managed by JP Spano Building Corp. whom only began framing
their first Eco Red Shield project
in Westhampton, New York late last
week. Upon ECOB successfully delivering the previous "whole-house"
pack to the eastern Long Island
region, Joe Spano, President of JP
Spano Building Corp., quickly realized his desire to be a part of
this growing Defensive Building movement, and has called for the
certification of his building crews under the guidelines of Eco's
Defensive Partner certification program.
Joe Spano, President of JP Spano
Building Corp. commented that "Serving as the Project Manager for
the upcoming Water Mill project,
and in light of the recent NBC News http://youtu.be/23R-VwTch0Q,
our Industry is in the midst of shifting towards Defensive Building
Practices because these Brick and Mortar guys are onto something
big. I recognize the value of Eco's Advanced Framing Lumber,
especially after seeing what this technology can do when applied to
a combustible Christmas tree. Having this capability afforded to me
as a Custom Builder further enables me to build exceptionally
resilient homes that can withstand future climate change related
storms and moisture related problems, and could serve as a stepping
stone into the realization and value of carbon credits. Eco's 'Cut
Once Concept' is founded on sustainable principles relating to the
defense of harvested timber, and the potential carbon value
associated with protecting lumber from 'cradle to cradle' via
ECOB's eco-friendly Red Shield
coatings." Visit this link to view Joe's recent Interview:

Quick research shows that one acre of forested land can
sequester up to 5 tons of carbon dioxide a year. One acre of
Douglas-fir contains up to 17,000 cubic feet of timber or 100,000
board feet of usable wood. The average American house is 2,400
square feet and uses around 30,000 board feet of lumber as framing,
boarding and roofing. In 2009, the worst year for the lumber
industry since the Great Depression, 7.2 billion board feet of
lumber was used in construction and repairs. In the years since
2009, the Country has seen a huge increase to these numbers, but we
will stick with 2009, as it offers a very conservative
estimate.
Climate related fires and storms like Sandy and others along
with the growing population of termites and other wood-boring
insects are a rising problem in the
United States. With the climate getting warmer, termites are
taking advantage of their less restricted region of influence. Each
year the USDA estimates over $2
billion worth of damage is done to wood structures in the
country by termites alone. The total amount of wood purchased to
replace damage done by insects is a statistic that is difficult to
ascertain, as is quantifying the amount of sequestered carbon
dioxide termites release from the lumber they eat. It is not hard
to predict that the number is staggering and growing.
Forgive the amount of numbers and statistics, but as countries
and companies are starting to quantify carbon offsets, numbers are
all important. Further, it is necessary to understand the scope of
the preventable consumption of lumber in the United States annually. Through the
expansion of Eco's footprint, and especially the furthering of
education about defending all the lumber instead of just the sill
plate with Eco's technology, our availability in multiple regions
will enable us to greatly reduce the amount of trees we remove from
forests if the consumer recognizes that the choice to build with
Defensive Lumber could have as great an impact as the choice we
make to recycle. Every year billions of board feet of lumber are
used to replace damage done to houses and wood-framed structures by
climate change storms, flooding, fire, rot, mold, and wood-boring
insects.
Steve Conboy, President & CEO
of Eco Building Products stated that "As a nation that is becoming
ever more conscious of our carbon footprint, it is strange that we
so wantonly use wood that does not guard against these wholly
preventable yet highly damaging influences up until now, as this
Eco Red Shield footprint is growing.
As mentioned previously, Eco set out a long time ago with its Cut
Once Program, before the Green Movement even started to protect
reforestation programs and the consumption from things that destroy
wood fiber strength in American wood-framed buildings. Up until
now, US Building Codes, other than in Hawaii, have mandated that only one component
of framing lumber in homes be defensive against termites and fungal
decay. Since most of the treated lumber on this planet is used for
landscaping timbers and other exterior 'ground contact' uses, Eco
has set out to educate the need to defend ALL the lumber in a home
against fire while providing protection in support of the lateral
engineering values that defend against ground movement and high
wind events."
