Aetna and Washington Hospital Healthcare System Reach New Agreement

Aetna (NYSE:AET) and Washington Hospital Healthcare System
announced today that the two organizations have signed a new
three-and-a-half year contract. The new contract, which takes
effect on September 1, 2014, will give Aetna HMO, PPO and Medicare
Advantage members in-network access to Washington Hospital
Healthcare System for the first time since October 1, 2012.

network,” said John Pickett, Aetna’s network head for Northern
California. “This new agreement will allow us to continue offering
our members access to a broad network of high-quality hospitals and
physicians in Northern California.”

residents of Washington Township Health Care District, have come to

officer of Washington Hospital Healthcare System. “I believe the
ultimate beneficiaries are Aetna patients who will be able to once
again receive the in-network care they need from their local
community hospital.”
Washington Township Health Care District includes Fremont,
Newark, Union City, South Hayward and Unincorporated Sunol and has
a population of more than 320,000.
Aetna provides health benefits to more than 300,000 members in
Northern California. Those members have access to a contracted
network of 100 hospitals and more than 14,000 primary care doctors
and specialists.
