BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, or BMA, will resume normal operations at Hay Point coal export terminal in northeast Queensland after they were disrupted by Greenpeace protesters, a BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP) spokeswoman told Dow Jones Newswires on Friday.

"We have lost two full days of shiploading operations...and are pleased to confirm that all Greenpeace protesters have been safely removed from the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance Hay Point Coal Terminal, ending their illegal and dangerous protest," she said.

The Greenpeace vessel The Esperanza has also left the port's licensed area, she said.

The Hay Point Coal Terminal, located 38 kilometers south of Mackay city, is jointly owned by BMA, one of Australia's largest coal miners and exporters and the world's largest supplier to the seaborne coking coal market, according to its website.

Greenpeace said in a statement that it will continue to take peaceful direct action to highlight a link between the expansion of the coal trade and the future of the Pacific Islands and the injustice of Australia "abandoning our Pacific neighbors in support of big polluters."
