"A few years ago, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) promoted compact fluorescent lights (CFLs)," says Darius Jakubik, the Senior Vice President of the corporation. "They claimed that if every American home replaced one regular incandescent light bulb with a compact florescent light bulb, America could save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, generate more than $600 million in annual energy savings and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equal to 800,000 cars.

Jakubik concludes that if only 1 in 10 American homes with central air conditioning installed a Cool-n-Save system, American consumers could save enough energy to light 721,000 homes, reap a projected $2.3 billion in annual energy savings, and eliminate the greenhouse emission equivalent of about 1 million cars. He also notes that the cost of 38 CFLs is almost the same cost of one residential Cool-n-Save kit.
