The tech sector traded sideways Thursday morning, as Apple Inc. posted gains, while Amazon.com retreated.

Apple (AAPL) was up 1.2% in early trading, while Amazon (AMZN) fell 1.7%.

After posting gains at the opening bell, the Nasdaq Composite Index (RIXF) sank 0.2% to 1,994. The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) was up 0.1%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) was mostly flat.

Aside from Apple, the sector got a boost from other major players, including Google Inc. (GOOG), Texas Instruments (TXN) and Dell Inc. (DELL)

But the group was weighed down by declines in shares of SanDisk Corp. (SNDK), eBay Inc. (EBAY) and IBM Corp. (IBM)
