UnitedHealth Group Names Andrew Witty as Chief Executive

UnitedHealth Group said it named Andrew Witty as chief
executive, succeeding David S. Wichmann, who is retiring.
The provider of health care coverage, software, and data
consulting firm services said Dirk McMahon will become president,
chief operating officer and will join Mr. Witty and Chief Financial
Officer John Rex in the chief executive office.
UnitedHealth Group offers products and services through two
platforms: UnitedHealthcare and Optum.
Mr. Witty was named CEO of Optum in March 2018 and added the
role of president of UnitedHealth Group in November 2019. He
previously served as a UnitedHealth Group company director.
From April 2020 to December 2020, Mr. Witty took an unpaid leave
of absence from his company positions to serve as a Global Envoy
for the World Health Organization's Covid-19 efforts.
Mr. McMahon has been CEO of UnitedHealthcare since June 2019.
Before this role, Mr. McMahon was president and chief operating
officer of Optum. Mr. McMahon has served in a number of leadership
positions since joining the company in 2003, including CEO of
OptumRx.
Mr. Wichmann joined UnitedHealth Group in 1998 and became its
CEO in September 2017. He served as CFO from 2011 until mid-2016
when he became president.
