State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), the worlds leading provider
of financial services to institutional investors, today announced
its $1 million contribution to support the Museum of African
American Historys commemoration of its bicentennial with a
restoration and expansion project totaling $7.2 million. The Museum
of African American Historys bicentennial project will allow for
the purchase and renovation of a building adjacent to the Museums
Boston headquarters to serve as an Education and Technology Center.
State Street will have naming rights at the new facility upon
completion of the project. The State Street Corporation Education
Center will greatly enhance the Museum of African American
Historys capacity to provide public access to documents and
artifacts of great significance to the nations history and
culture, said Beverly A. Morgan-Welch, executive director of the
Museum of African American History. State Streets contribution is
the largest corporate donation in the museums history. We are
deeply appreciative of State Streets involvement in our 200th
Anniversary campaign, which underscores the companys long-standing
tradition of preserving New Englands vital cultural landscape.
The new education center, which will be located steps away from the
Museums national historic landmarks, the African Meeting House and
Abiel Smith School, will be the centerpiece of the museums
education and preservation mission. The new facility will be housed
in an approximately 8,000-square-foot, four-story 1906 structure,
and will include a technology center and research space. It is our
privilege to partner with the Museum of African American History
and contribute to its continued success, said Ronald E. Logue,
chairman and chief executive officer of State Street. Our support
of the museum underlines State Streets year-round commitment to
our headquarter city through sponsorships of major cultural
landmarks as well as important community organizations. The Museum
of African American Historys 200th Anniversary campaign also
supports its plans to restore its Boston and Nantucket historic
sites, including the African Meeting House in Boston (1806), which
are dedicated to preserving the contributions of African Americans
to American history. For more information, call +1 617 725 0022
