St. Jude Medical, Inc. (NYSE:STJ), a global medical device
company, today announced connectivity with an additional electronic
health record (EHR) solution and a cardiac rhythm management (CRM)
data management system. The company’s Merlin.net™ Patient Care
Network (PCN), an Internet-based repository of patient and
implantable device data, is now fully integrated with GE
Healthcare’s Centricity EMR, as well as Scottcare’s OneView CRM
device management system. St. Jude Medical customers using these
EHR solutions have the opportunity to seamlessly integrate their
EHR systems with the Merlin.net PCN.
Clinicians using St. Jude Medical products are already
benefiting from these new connections:
“Integrating GE’s Centricity EMR with
Merlin.net was a major milestone for taking our remote patient
management to the next level. We are now able to achieve greater
efficiency through simplified clinic workflows and by having
complete patient information in one electronic record,” said Dr.
Dan Goldman, The Cardiology Center, Delray Beach, Fla.
“We chose ScottCare OneView as our device
management solution because it truly communicates equally with all
device vendors, and specifically, it works well with Merlin.net.
The smooth integration with all device companies and the
availability of complete information, whether discrete data or
PDFs, made this the right solution for our clinic’s needs,” said
LaNita Hobby, R.N, Device Clinic Supervisor, Little Rock
Cardiology, Little Rock, Ark.
St. Jude Medical will be demonstrating EHR interoperability with
Merlin.net PCN at the company’s booth #702 during Heart Rhythm
2011.
About the Merlin.net Patient Care Network (PCN)
Implantable cardiac devices are designed to capture and record
information about patient heart rhythms and device performance that
is vital to patient care. Merlin.net PCN organizes this information
for fast analysis and easy review and allows data to be sent
directly to a clinic's or a hospital's EHR system so the data are
included in the patient's comprehensive personal health record.
With immediate access to patient information through the secure
Merlin.net PCN website, physicians can remotely monitor and assess
patient device data and determine the level of care needed. Alert
notification delivery times can be customized to fit in with
physician determined clinic hours, including any after-hours
processes the clinic might provide.
The data transferred to the Merlin.net PCN is fully encrypted
and meets or exceeds all applicable national data privacy and
security requirements in every country where the system is used. In
addition, BSI Management Systems, an international standards,
testing, registration and certification organization, has awarded
St. Jude Medical the information security certification ISO/IEC
27001:2005. This ISO certification, a stringent worldwide
information security standard, recognizes that St. Jude Medical's
Merlin.net PCN has established processes and standards that
maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality, integrity and
availability for its customers. The Merlin.net PCN is the first
medical device data network to be recognized with this
certification.
