Communications is pleased to announce that the company has donated
$15,000 to renovate Toronto's Fort York Food Bank. The
project is part of ET Canada Gives Back, an annual series which
brings together on-air talent and notable celebrities to make a
true difference across the country. Viewers can tune in to Global
at 7:30pm Eastern Time tomorrow to see ET Canada reporter Kim
D'Eon, star interior designer Penny Southam and a group of
volunteers complete a record two-day, top-to-bottom makeover of the
food bank's small apartment-style kitchen. "Our staff at ET Canada
were so passionate about this project, we just knew we had to get
behind it," said Paul Robertson, President, Shaw Media and Group
Vice President, Broadcasting, Shaw. "At this time of year,
food banks are used more than ever and we're really pleased that we
could help support Fort York Food Bank's ability to serve the
community." For more than a decade, Fort York Food Bank has been
providing up to 200 hot meals per day to Torontonians in
need. The organization operates with only one staff member
and ninety-five cents of every dollar donated goes to people who
need it most. "Fort York Food Bank is thrilled to receive Shaw's
generous financial support. With our new kitchen, we look forward
to improving the quality of the meals we provide, facilitating more
efficient service delivery and providing a more welcoming
environment for our clients," said Ravi Sreedharan, President, Fort
York Food Bank. "As a grassroots agency we are entirely
dependent upon community members coming together for a good cause,
and have been inspired to see how quickly the team mobilized to
bring this project to fruition." Shaw has a strong commitment to
enriching the communities where its employees and their families
live and work. In 2010 as part of the Together is Amazing
movement, Shaw raised more than 2.6 million pounds of food for
local food banks across Canada. ET Canada Gives Back will air
throughout the week of Monday, December 19, 2011 at 7:30pm ET on
Global. For more information about Shaw, please visit www.shaw.ca.
