Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) said Wednesday it has filed a competition
law complaint with the European Commission against Motorola
Mobility in regard to Motorola's handling of standards-essential
patents.
Microsoft said, in effect, Motorola Mobility is attempting to
block sales of Microsoft products, as access to certain patents is
necessary to make network devices work with an industry
standard.
Microsoft claims Motorola Mobility isn't making the patents that
are essential to the standards available on "fair and reasonable
terms," and "is on a path to kill video on the Web."
Last week, anti-trust authorities in the U.S. and European Union
approved Google Inc.'s (GOOG) $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola
Mobility.
"Google as its new owner doesn't seem to be willing to change
course," Microsoft said.
