Harris Corporation Deploys Centralization Solution at Television Jamaica Limited NetVX(TM) Networking Platform and TRuepoint(TM) Microwave Radio System Enable Television Jamaica to Consolidate TV and Radio Services MASON, Ohio, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced the first Caribbean installation of its NetVX(TM) high-speed, integrated networking platform, and TRuepoint(TM), Harris' next- generation microwave radio, at Television Jamaica Limited (TVJ), the island's leading broadcast television station. NetVX provides the broadcaster with high-speed IT-based connectivity for video and data distribution, while TRuepoint ensures highly reliable wireless communication links for voice and data transmission. The joint solution supports TVJ's central-casting model and allows for bidirectional networking to source and return regional feeds between the broadcaster's "hub" in Kingston and the various channels' transmitters that are dispersed around the island. TVJ's terrestrial broadcast television stations cover 95 percent of the island of Jamaica. As TVJ transitions from analog to digital, NetVX and TRuepoint will integrate into the existing infrastructure to provide the station with a digital backbone. The joint solution enables centralized broadcast operations through one stream containing four channels: two radio and two television. The combination of NetVX and TRuepoint provides a cost- efficient, single-vendor solution. "Harris' integrated architecture is allowing Television Jamaica Limited to consolidate its television and radio transmission service," said Stephen Legister, TVJ's director of technical strategy and development. "As a result, we've experienced a number of key benefits to date. Most importantly, the bandwidth capacity and flexibility of the network has increased our ability to transport live encoded media from several locations around the island. Secondly, we're transmitting a television signal in a digital format from our studio to our transmitters, resulting in better picture quality for TVJ viewers." NetVX is an integrated, high-speed network connectivity solution that can establish links with all packet-based (ATM, IP and microwave) services and receive satellite signals for efficient movement of media between physically disparate locations. Featuring a modular architecture, NetVX can support any contribution and/or distribution application and offers a "plug-and-play" upgrade path for the future. TRuepoint leads the wireless backhaul industry in terms of both performance and manageability. Its modular, software-selectable architecture is able to seamlessly switch between PDH and SDH applications, enabling service providers to use a universal platform to deliver multiple applications throughout their networks. Designed specifically to deliver point-to-point wireless service, TRuepoint can deliver service from 4 to 180 Mbps at frequencies ranging from 6 to 38 GHz. In addition, service providers can completely manage TRuepoint deployments remotely, with SNMP-based management. Built-in diagnostics and performance management also are available. "TVJ is the number one broadcaster in Jamaica and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to help them provide a better viewing experience for their customers," said Jim Denney, vice president and general manager of Harris Broadcast Communications Division's Networking and Government Solutions business unit. "By incorporating the joint NetVX-TRuepoint solution, broadcasters around the globe can seamlessly upgrade their TV and radio networks to digital and operate them without the inherent limitations of traditional equipment," stated Jayne Leighton, Harris Microwave Communications Division vice president, North American sales and services.
