Department of Veterans Affairs Expands Harris Corporation Computer Security Program STAT(R) Products Now Protecting Entire VA Enterprise Network MELBOURNE, Fla., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading provider of network security solutions to the U.S. government for more than 25 years, today announced that it is expanding its computer security capabilities across the entire Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) enterprise network. Based on the success of its Veterans Health Administration (VHA) network security work started in 2003 as part of a Hewlett Packard initiative, Harris is expanding its role to include all departments within the VA. Under terms of the contract, Harris will provide its STAT(R) Scanner vulnerability assessment solution and its STAT(R) Scanner Console reporting tool for use on all VA computers throughout the U.S. This combination of products will provide the VA with the capability to scan all of its networks and computers for vulnerabilities, automatically fix the vulnerabilities, and track the progress of the vulnerability management program through Harris' easy-to-use console reporting mechanism. "Harris is very excited to be able build upon its success with the VHA by expanding its network security capabilities to provide an enterprise-wide solution for the VA," said Rick Simonian, vice president of programs for the Homeland Security Programs business unit of Harris Corporation's Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD). "Protecting the computer networks that administer the benefits and medical information of our veterans from hackers is serious business, and Harris is pleased that HP and the VA have again selected our vulnerability management products to further protect their enterprise." The STAT products, which are now being deployed across the VA network, are playing a critical role as the VA works to achieve Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) reporting compliance. These products directly address a number of information assurance requirements outlined by the law. Additionally, the Office of Cyber Information Security (OCIS) has been able to standardize a single security policy across the enterprise through the use of the STAT solution. STAT Scanner is the first vulnerability scanner to be granted Common Criteria (CC) certification. This certification enables STAT Scanner to comply with the U.S. National Information Assurance Acquisition Policy, or NSTISSP No. 11, which requires security product vendors to undergo rigorous testing and analysis to ensure their products meet strict guidelines and will not compromise national security. CC certification underscores Harris Corporation's commitment to provide the U.S. Federal government with the most reliable network security tools industry has to offer in order to implement its homeland security initiatives. STAT Scanner also is undergoing Assurance Continuity to ensure that the certification is maintained throughout the product's life cycle. The STAT product line provides network security solutions backed by decades of expertise in information security. STAT vulnerability management products offer proactive protection of information and computer networks from hackers, viruses and other threats.
