Harris Corporation Launches Fault Location Tester for the Datacom and Electrical Contractor Environment CAMARILLO, Calif., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation , a leading supplier of telecommunications test sets and tools, is now shipping its TS(R)90 Cable Fault Finder, engineered specifically for datacom and electrical contractors needing a reasonably priced, easy-to-use fault location test set. "The TS90 fault locator was developed directly from our highly successful TS100 model," said Paul Alexander, product line manager - Harris Network Support Division (NSD). "The TS100 model was created with long distance reading functions and a broad range of linecord options suited for the telecom technician's environment. We re-engineered it for the datacom and electrical contractors' environment and produced the TS90 model at a more affordable contractor price." Like the TS100, the TS90 tester is three tools - in one: a fault locator, cable and wire manager and tone generator. From just one end, the user can quickly locate the distance to "opens" or "shorts", up to 2,500 feet, on any two or more conductor cables including electrical wire, telephone wire, security wire and coax. Results appear as a distance reading rather than a waveform, so it's simple to operate by technicians unfamiliar with Time Domain Reflectometery (TDR). Intermittent faults are easier to find because the unit constantly measures while "On". Contractors can efficiently manage cable inventories in trucks and warehouses and generate more accurate bids for jobs by quickly assessing needs and the cable stock with greater accuracy. The patented SmartTone(TM) technology provides five distinct tones for exact wire and pair identification. Voltage detection in the unit will immediately sound an alarm if accidentally clipped onto an energized pair, up to 250VAC. Harris NSD, one of five divisions within Harris Corporation, delivers advanced management, test, and maintenance solutions for multivendor, multiprotocol networks of public and private communications service providers that solve the increasingly complex needs of operations, maintenance, and installation professionals in telecommunications, broadcast, and defense markets worldwide. Harris Corporation, which also provides government, tactical radio, broadcast, and microwave products and systems, provides sales and services to customers in more than 150 countries.
