MELBOURNE, Fla., March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, and CBS Sports announced today that Harris is sponsoring CBS Sports' high-definition television (HDTV) coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship tournament. This is the third consecutive year that Harris and CBS Sports have teamed to deliver the tournament in HDTV. Beyond this sponsorship, Harris Corporation has been a key supplier of HD- enabling technology to the CBS Television Network. Harris video compression and networking products, including the Harris(R) FlexiCoder(TM), NetPlus(TM) and NetVX(TM), provide compression and distribution of the high-definition television programming of the CBS Television Network, while Harris digital television transmitters deliver the final programming to many of the homes viewing this sports programming. For the first time, HD coverage of the 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament includes all 63 games during the tournament, which began March 15 with the first round of play and will conclude with the National Championship Game on April 2 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. For the third consecutive year, all 12 games from the four regional sites in San Antonio, San Jose, St. Louis and East Rutherford are airing in HD. CBS Sports will air the two national semi-final games and the National Championship Game in high definition for the eighth consecutive year. "We are pleased to have Harris as our HD college basketball and March Madness partner for a third consecutive year as together we bring college basketball coverage to viewers in vivid HD, and we reaffirm CBS' leadership in HD sports broadcasting," said Martin D. Franks, executive vice president, Planning, Policy and Government Relations, CBS Corporation. "Harris Corporation is proud to once again work with CBS Sports to deliver one of the premier sporting events in HDTV," said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Harris Corporation. "More viewers than ever before will be watching the tournament on high-definition displays, and we are delighted to be part of this exciting series of sports telecasts." The telecasts, being presented live by CBS Sports, are "unified" productions produced in HDTV's highest definition format, 1080i, and down- converted for the CBS Television Network's analog broadcast coverage. This production technique also produces a better quality analog picture. Whether watching in widescreen HD or traditional 4x3 analog, viewers see the same camera angles, replays and graphics, and will hear the same play by play. All high-definition games are broadcast in 5.1 channels of CD-quality surround sound. The addition of surround sound audio to the broadcast, coupled with the clarity of 1080 lines of picture resolution, brings the stadium experience to the viewer's home.
