Aflac Receives Fifth Fortune Accolade This Year COLUMBUS, Ga., Dec.
13 /PRNewswire/ -- After receiving numerous honors throughout 2005
as an employer of choice, Aflac ends the year with yet another
accolade in this category. Fortune magazine named the leading
insurer as one of the Top 50 Employers for Women, making it one of
the most applauded companies recognized by the prestigious
publication within the last 12 months. The announcement was
published in the Career Opportunities feature section of the
magazine on December 12. Women make up an impressive 70 percent of
Aflac's workforce, well above the national average. Over 30 percent
serve as upper-level management. Women at Aflac oversee major
departments, such as Human Resources and Sales Support and
Administration, with the responsibility of directing more than
4,000 employees and a 60,000-member sales force. "We are especially
proud to be recognized as an industry leader when it comes to
providing career opportunities for women," said Daniel P. Amos,
Aflac chairman and CEO. "At Aflac, we understand the integral part
that women play in bringing added value to the work we do every day
and to the continued success of our business." To compile the list,
Fortune partnered with Smart Revenue Research, a leading research
organization that provides consumer insights and solutions, to
evaluate company data such as: -- Number of female officers. --
Percentage of women in the workforce. -- Recruitment of women
employees. -- Family benefits offered, including child care and
flexible work schedules. Earlier this year, Aflac was named to
multiple Fortune magazine listings, including America's Most
Admired Companies, the 100 Best Companies to Work For in America,
the Global 500 listing, and the Top 50 Companies for Minorities. In
April, Essence magazine named Aflac a Great Place to Work for
African- American Women. For 50 years, Aflac products have given
policyholders the opportunity to direct cash where it is needed
most when a life-interrupting medical event causes financial
challenges. Aflac is the number one provider of guaranteed-
renewable insurance in the United States and the number one
insurance company in terms of individual insurance policies in
force in Japan. Aflac's insurance products provide protection to
more than 40 million people worldwide. Aflac has been included in
both in Fortune magazine's listing of America's Most Admired
Companies and Forbes magazine's Platinum 400 List of America's Best
Big Companies for five consecutive years. In January 2005, Aflac
was included in Fortune magazine's list of the 100 Best Companies
to Work For in America for the seventh consecutive year. Aflac was
also included in Fortune magazine's list of the Top 50 Employers
for Minorities in August 2005, and in September 2005, Aflac Japan
