Zix Corporation (ZixCorp), (NASDAQ: ZIXI), the leader in
email encryption services, signed a three-year renewal agreement
with Berkshire Bank. ZixCorp has provided email encryption
services to Berkshire Bank since 2008. Berkshire Bank renewed after
enjoying the unparalleled ease of use from transparent email
encryption with ZixGateway®. The ZixCorp solution also helps
Berkshire Bank satisfy the privacy requirements in Massachusetts
regulation 201 CMR 17.
“Berkshire Bank has implemented a proactive, data security
strategy to protect the sensitive information of all our customers.
We are constantly enhancing it as we encounter new threats and new
regulatory requirements,” said John Sinopoli, Vice President,
Information Technology for Berkshire Bank. “CMR 17 was a
significant regulatory adjustment for businesses managing the
sensitive information of Massachusetts residents, but Berkshire
Bank was well prepared for the change. We were completely
comfortable with the new secure email requirement because ZixCorp
Email Encryption Services was already providing us with a
convenient security and compliance solution.”
Effective in March 2010, 201 CMR 17 mandates the protection and
security of sensitive information about Massachusetts residents.
The state regulation applies to all persons and businesses that
possess personal information about a resident of Massachusetts.
In preparation for the state regulation, the ZixResearch
CenterTM expanded its industry proven lexicons to
include a custom solution for Massachusetts businesses. Lexicons
are used to conduct automatic scanning and help prevent leaks of
potentially sensitive information. ZixCorp solutions also have
custom lexicons for three other states - New Hampshire, Nevada and
Washington – which currently require similar data privacy
standards.
“Businesses are challenged by security needs that are constantly
shifting in light of data breaches and demanding regulatory
requirements,” said Rick Spurr, ZixCorp’s Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer. “ZixCorp Email Encryption Services offers a
secure email solution that’s simple, safe and secure.”
Berkshire Bank uses automatic scanning by ZixGateway to protect
email communication of more than 700 employees. Secure email is
sent and enabled for all Berkshire Bank customers and partners, and
more than 215 business partners receive transparent encrypted
email. Transparent encrypted email is enabled between ZixGateway
customers and allows secure email to be sent and accessed without
any extra steps; not even a password is needed. Last year alone,
Berkshire Bank sent more than 50,000 transparent secure emails
using ZixGateway.
