Xyratex Announces First Advanced Switch Products HAVANT, United
Kingdom, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xyratex Ltd
(NASDAQ:XRTX), a leading OEM provider of enterprise-class data
storage subsystems and network technology, announced plans for its
first Advanced Switch(AS) products at First Looks/Supercomm,
Chicago, June 6th - 9th, 2005. Today's users want an application
software platform where the storage server and I/O virtualization
combine to allow for the re-purposing of servers and peripherals,
providing the replication and prioritization of application
software to support end-user needs. Such systems require: - High
bandwidth, ubiquitous interconnect fabric capable of supporting
platform boards, backplanes and cable interconnect for processors
and peripherals. - Shared I/O to connect processor platforms to
network resources, storage and high performance
processor-to-processor communications. "The Company's move into the
AS arena follows significant R&D investment and aims to meet
external market forecasts," said Will Leonard, executive vice
president of network management at Xyratex. "This trend for an
enterprise-quality, standards-based scalable system at SMB cost
requires simpler entry level management with high-availability
expectations. We expect early deployment to be within NAS and
Storage Application environments and the communications market."
Xyratex plans to launch the following products during 3rd quarter
2005 in response to the growing market demand: Switch Silicon - The
1st switch silicon for a scalable cross-bar ASI switch, capable of
scaling from 40 Gb/s to 640 Gb/s. 80G ATCA Card - Up to 80 Gb/s of
raw switching bandwidth utilizing ASI protocol. - Each port
contains a configurable PI8 bridge to provide full PCI-Express
connectivity. - The wide ranging scalability and low latency of the
interconnect enables system integrators to broaden the
applicability of PCI into the peer-to-peer and multi-host domain. -
The lightweight transport protocol and source routing enables
simple switch implementations and low port-to-port latencies,
providing up to 80 Gb/s of true non-blocking performance via either
PCI-Express or ASI ports. - High throughput is maintained even in
heavily loaded systems using sophisticated Congestion Management.
Shared I/O - A system-level shared I/O product for the
interconnection of servers, storage and networks. "This
announcement from Xyratex adds a significant industry capability,
further highlighting the advancement and adoption of Advanced
Switching Interconnect technology and demonstrates the ASI SIG's
leadership," added Rajeev Kumar, president of the ASI SIG and
Intel's Advanced Switching Initiatives manager. "The industry now
has first silicon, off-the-shelf ATCA board products, testers, IP,
FPGAs and verification IP to complete the initial set of building
blocks needed to start platform designs based on ASI technology.
The ASI SIG will continue to drive industry adoption of the
specification, compliance, interoperability, software and marketing
activities." About Xyratex Xyratex is a leading provider of
