Jason and Kirsten Mead of Overland Park, Kansas, won $10,000 from
the www.myuglyroom.com online contest sponsored by UMB Bank. The
couple's entry on the Web site, titled "Contractor Failure," was
chosen from a random drawing of the top 10 rooms that received the
most votes. A total of 132 rooms and areas of the home were
submitted in the contest that was conducted June 5 - August 31,
2006. To enter the contest, participants logged on to
www.myuglyroom.com and submitted a brief description and photos of
a room. The winning entry was determined by UMB Bank in a random
drawing of the top 10 entries, as determined by popular vote.
Twelve weekly winning entries were determined by popular vote of
Web site visitors from June 11 - August 27 and received a $100 Visa
gift card. "We want to thank UMB for making a dream of ours come
true," said Jason Mead. "I can say it would have been years before
we would have been able to complete a renovation of the bathroom by
relying on our own resources. I still don't think it has completely
sunk into our minds that we won't have the mildewed sinks or
inoperable bathroom door much longer." "Congratulations to the Mead
family and thanks to everyone across the country who participated
in the myuglyroom.com contest," said Mariner Kemper, chairman and
CEO of UMB Financial Corporation. "We can't wait to see the
improvements that this prize will provide for them. We plan to
conduct additional viral, creative campaigns to position our
financial services to very targeted and relevant audiences." UMB
