Sanofi and Translate Bio Inc.'s candidate Covid-19 vaccine
showed positive results in early trials using mice and non-human
primates, the companies said Thursday.
In a pre-clinical trial, mice were given two doses of the
candidate vaccine at one of four studied dose levels. The vaccine
induced dose-dependent levels of binding and neutralizing
antibodies, Sanofi and Translate said.
The vaccine was also studied in non-human primates, which were
given the vaccine at one of three dose levels. The majority of the
primates developed neutralizing antibodies after one dose, and
antibody titers for all of the creatures reached levels
significantly higher than those from human convalescent sera after
a second dose.
The companies plan to begin a Phase 1/2 clinical trial of the
vaccine by the end of the year.
