With under 350 residents, the little town of Dinosaur, Colorado,
welcomes visitors to big attractions like Dinosaur National
Monument, the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway, an annual hang gliding
competition attracting hundreds of participants from around the
world, and the world’s largest elk population. The town now has a
convenient way to promote this impressive list of things to do with
its first website. “We’re a council-driven town,” explains
Assistant Clerk, Niki Austin. “I was directed by our Town Council
to create a website to give the town more recognition and promote
tourism.”
Another website goal was incorporating strategies that
efficiently serve citizens. The website puts contact information
for critical town services, such as reporting an after-hours
emergency, law enforcement, utilities and social services (The
Emergency Food Assistance Program, senior services, etc.) at their
fingertips.
The town also wanted to offer the convenience—and reassurance—of
secure online payments. Citizens can now pay licenses, fees, fines
and utilities through the website. “I thought the payment
processing integration was going to be the most difficult part of
creating our website,” says Niki. “However, the Statewide Internet
Portal Authority (SIPA) and Colorado Interactive (CI) made it the
easiest.”
CI provides digital government services to state agencies and
local governments through a contract with SIPA—the official
Internet portal connecting the public with Colorado governments.
The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on
delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests
for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA
partnership has benefited more than 75 municipalities (cities,
towns, villages, etc.) of all sizes throughout Colorado.
"Regardless of a government partner’s size, secure payment
processing is critical to accepting online payments,” says Colorado
Interactive’s President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. "We
manage every aspect of the payment life cycle, providing citizens
with the reassurance that municipalities can safely accept their
online payments.”
Municipalities in need of free website development and hosting
as well as payment processing through the Colorado.gov Web portal,
should contact SIPA.
