Infinera to Speak on Digital Optical Networks at NCTA Cable Show
May 15 2008 - 2:52PM
Marketwired
SUNNYVALE, CA will discuss the benefits of the Digital Optical
Networks architecture for cable operators in a presentation at next
week's The Cable Show '08 in New Orleans.
Infinera's presence at The Cable Show will also include a
display at Booth 3735 in the CableNET '08 technology showcase,
where Infinera representatives will be available to meet customers,
press, and analysts, and explain the benefits of Infinera's
architecture, which is based on Infinera's large-scale photonic
integrated circuits (PICs). An Infinera DTN digital ROADM will be
on display at the booth. Optimized for long-haul and metro core
networks, the Infinera DTN combines high-capacity DWDM transport,
integrated digital switching and bandwidth management, and
GMPLS-powered service and network intelligence in a single
platform.
The Infinera DTN digital ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop
Multiplexer) offers greater bandwidth efficiency, supports
switching and grooming of traffic at the sub-wavelength level, and
eliminates the complexities of optical layer engineering that arise
in traditional optical ROADM-based networks. In addition, Infinera
DTN networks offer greater flexibility, scalability, and ease of
use than traditional DWDM networks.
Infinera's digital architecture enables Bandwidth
Virtualization(TM) for faster and simpler provisioning of services.
An Infinera digital network creates a pool of bandwidth that can be
used to deliver any service, anywhere in the network, at any time.
This capability is achieved by decoupling services from the optical
network layer, eliminating in most cases the need for any optical
layer engineering when adding new services or upgrading the
network.
"The Infinera digital ROADM has helped many cable providers
build networks that can accommodate fast-growing bandwidth demand
in a flexible and cost-effective manner," said Gaylord Hart,
Infinera Marketing Director for the cable sector. "Support from
cable operators nationwide has made Infinera one of the
fastest-growing suppliers of optical systems to the cable space in
the last two years," Mr. Hart added.
Four of the five largest cable operators in the U.S. have
deployed Infinera networks to support applications including
Ethernet transport for video-on-demand and switched digital video,
metro business services, and coast-to-coast IP backbones.
On Monday, May 19th, Mr. Hart will present a paper entitled
Advances In DWDM ROADM Technology Using Photonic Integrated
Circuits in a technical session entitled Guiding Light: New
Possibilities in Optical Network Architectures. This paper will be
included in the published NCTA Technical Papers available at the
convention or afterwards through the NCTA.
The Cable Show '08 takes place Sunday, May 18 through Tuesday,
May 20, 2008 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Visitors to the show are invited to stop by the Infinera booth or
contact their Infinera representative to arrange an appointment.
Press and analysts can arrange a meeting via the contacts listed
