Findings from Clinical Study of Smartlipo Demonstrate
Skin-Tightening Benefits of Company's Laser Lipolysis Technology
WESTFORD, Mass., April 2, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cynosure,
Inc. (NASDAQ:CYNO), a leading developer and manufacturer of a broad
array of light-based aesthetic treatment systems, today announced
that the 28th American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery
(ASLMS) Annual Conference will include five presentations on the
Company's aesthetic laser technology: Smartlipo(TM)
LaserBodySculpting Workstation -- David J. Goldberg, M.D., J.D.,
Director of Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of NY/NJ and
Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of
Medicine in New York, will present a study that examines the
benefits of the Smartlipo(TM) LaserBodySculpting workstation,
Cynosure's groundbreaking flagship product for the minimally
invasive removal of concentrated areas of unwanted fat. Findings of
the study support the role that Smartlipo plays in the tightening
of loose skin through collagen remodeling. -- Bruce Katz, M.D.,
Clinical Professor, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, and Director of
the Juva Skin and Laser Center in New York, will present data from
a study that demonstrates a low complication rate among more than
500 patients treated with Smartlipo. "Over the past two years, we
have found Smartlipo to be safe and effective with less than one
percent complication rates, none of which were serious and all of
which resolved over time," said Dr. Katz, who also will speak about
Cynosure's laser lipolysis technology as part of a four-hour course
on skin rejuvenation. "Smartlipo has become an essential and a
comprehensive tool for treating unwanted fat and tightening skin."
Affirm(TM) Anti-Aging Workstation -- Dr. Emil Tanghetti of the
Center for Dermatology and Laser Surgery, Sacramento, Calif., and
Dr. Jennifer R. Lloyd of the Lloyd Dermatology Center in
Youngstown, Ohio, will present findings from a 24-patient study on
their use of the Affirm Anti-Aging Workstation for the treatment of
acne scars. Their research will compare the clinical benefits of
Affirm's Multiplex technology, which enables the rapid sequential
emission of two wavelengths, 1320 nm and 1440 nm, from the same
optical fiber, to the benefits of a 1320 nm wavelength alone. --
Brian S. Biesman of the Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial
Surgery in Nashville, Tenn., will discuss findings from a
prospective clinical study that evaluates the benefits of the
Affirm workstation from the standpoint of patient downtime and
discomfort. Cynergy(TM) Vascular Workstation -- Ranella Hirsch,
M.D. and Christine Dierickx, M.D. will present their evaluation of
Cynosure's Cynergy Multiplex Laser for the treatment of various
vascular lesions. Dr. Hirsch is Assistant Clinical Professor of
Dermatology at the Boston University School of Medicine and the
President of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and
Aesthetic Surgery. Dr. Dierickx is a Visiting Scientist at the
Harvard Medical School and Director of the Skin and Laser Center in
Belgium. "The scope of the data being presented at ASLMS provides
further evidence of the clinical benefits of our technology for
some of the aesthetic industry's fastest-growing applications,"
said Cynosure President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Davin.
"We are privileged to have some of the industry's leading experts
presenting clinical research on our technology at this conference."
