Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), America’s largest provider of van-delivered first-aid products and safety solutions, today named Steve Lawson as the recipient of its inaugural Cintas Courage Award. Through public voting, Lawson, a Cincinnati native, received the award for his inspiring story about saving the life of a five-year-old boy.

“The Courage Award gives us the opportunity to shed much-deserved light on the everyday heroes around us, many of whom go unrecognized for their life-saving efforts,” said Nancy Petersen, Senior Marketing Manager, First Aid & Safety. “We are proud to name Steve as this year’s winner because he has demonstrated the bravery that Cintas encourages others to find within themselves.”

Launched during National Safety Month, the Courage Award celebrates individuals whose heroic actions have protected friends, family, colleagues or strangers during a time of need. Lawson is a lamination supervisor at Deceuninck, a manufacturer of sustainable building materials, and received first responder training through Cintas’ on-site training program. He put his skills to test at his son’s daycare in spring 2007, when a young child began choking on pretzels. Lawson’s quick-thinking allowed him to clear the boy’s airway using a mouth sweep, saving the boy’s life. He will have the choice of a cruise, sports experience or golf vacation package along with $1000 spending cash. Runners up Piankhi Lands and Agustin Arreguin will also receive $500 each for their courageous actions.

“I am thrilled to be recognized with this award and hope that my story encourages others to step in and help in the event of an emergency,” said Lawson. “Individuals who are prepared to do so can make a difference and even save a life.”

By preparing personnel for workplace injuries, Cintas helps keep communities safe by ensuring more individuals know what to do in emergency situations. Cintas provides the nation’s only bundled solution for safety training and supplies, with products and training available for all business types, including offices, construction sites and factories.
