Career Education Corporation (CEC) (NASDAQ: CECO), a global
provider of post-secondary education programs and services, today
announced the hiring of Walter Pryor as Vice President of
Government Affairs.
Pryor is an attorney with extensive experience in Washington,
D.C., most recently as principal and general counsel of The Podesta
Group. He served as legislative director to Sen. Mark Pryor from
2003 to 2006. Before that, he was deputy director and managing
attorney for the National Association of Attorneys General and a
member of the Justice Department during the administration of
President Bill Clinton.
“We are excited to be adding Walter’s significant experience to
our organization at a time when proprietary post-secondary
education is focused on demonstrating the value it provides to
educating students,” said Gary E. McCullough, president and chief
executive officer. “These are difficult economic times when access
to post-secondary education for underserved student populations is
critical to meeting the President’s goals for additional college
graduates. Walter will lead our efforts to work with lawmakers and
administration officials to demonstrate the strong value our
schools provide to students and to ensure student access to
proprietary post-secondary education.”
Robert M. McNamara, Jr., senior vice president for government
relations at CEC, will work with Pryor during a period of
transition. McNamara plans to retire in June 2011. “With his vast
legal and political experience, Bob has been a tremendous asset to
our company and a driving force behind many internal processes that
have created the strict compliance culture that exists across our
schools today. I’m pleased he has agreed to work with his successor
during this transition before enjoying his retirement,” McCullough
said.
Pryor received his law degree from Georgetown University Law
Center, and a political science degree from Hendrix College. He
began his career as a litigator in private practice with two
Washington, D.C., law firms.
