Microtune(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:TUNE) announced today that its latest
digital silicon tuner has been deployed in the new-generation cable
telephony products of communications technology leader ARRIS
(Nasdaq:ARRS). The MicroTuner(TM) MT2060 tuner chip is implemented
in ARRIS' Touchstone(TM) TM502 series of Telephony Modems, also
referred to as Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adaptors (E-MTAs).
ARRIS' new TM502 series enables cable operators to leverage
multi-play revenue opportunities by offering high-speed data access
and carrier-grade Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone
services. Microtune, inventor of and a market leader in single-chip
silicon TV tuner technology, develops radio frequency (RF) silicon
and systems solutions for consumer electronics and broadband
communications. ARRIS is a global market leader in certified
industry-standard solutions for cable operators. "Our field-proven
Touchstone products have achieved enormous success in becoming the
leading customer-premises voice and data devices, and we have
shipped over one million of our telephony modems to cable operators
worldwide," said Bruce McClelland, VP & GM CPE Products, ARRIS
Broadband. "Our new TM502 series deploys Microtune's MT2060 silicon
tuner technology to help achieve the greatest-value telephony
products on the market today, with unmatched quality, reliability
and low-power." "We are proud of our continuing relationship with
ARRIS and of our ability to assist the ARRIS Broadband team in
evolving its market-leading telephony products to more advanced
feature sets, lower power and better price/performance by providing
our newer-generation silicon tuners," said Albert Taddiken, Chief
Operating Officer of Microtune. "By leveraging the high
integration, miniature size, and low power of our MT2060
single-chip tuner, the new Touchstone TM502 modems enable
dependable and cost-effective voice and data services, while
meeting the rigorous DOCSIS 2.0 and PacketCable standards." ARRIS
Touchstone TM502 Series Telephony Modems ARRIS' Touchstone TM502
series is engineered to combine the latest industry silicon
technology with an updated battery design to delivery the greatest
value (feature-rich and cost-effective) E-MTA products available on
the market today. The TM502 design features an updated 'look and
feel' in a smaller footprint. The battery design has been updated
to provide more flexibility to meet current industry needs. Two
options are provided: a smaller more cost-effective battery pack
that provides up to four hours of backup, and an optional larger
battery pack capable of providing up to eight hours of backup time.
The same field-proven line card features, as designed in ARRIS'
very successful TM402 products, are also built into all TM502
variants. Microtune RF Technology Microtune offers a complete
portfolio of RF products for cable access applications, and its
MicroTuner MT2060 addresses the critical radio frequency (RF) power
and pricing issues central to the rollout of VoIP cable phone
services. The tuner is engineered to consume a mere one Watt
without sacrificing performance. Based on Microtune's patented
dual-conversion tuner architecture, the MT2060 offers the technical
parameters that are required to ensure minimum distortion in voice
applications, reliability in high-speed Internet connections and
clear, crisp pictures in digital video applications. With its high
levels of integration, the MT2060 allows for simplified and
cost-efficient system design, compact architectures and a reduced
RF circuit footprint and bill of materials (BOM). About ARRIS ARRIS
